A wave of arrests and kidnappings of journalists throughout the country followed the announcement of a cease-fire by the Communist Nepalese Party (CNP-Maoist) on 27 August 2003. At least 15 journalists are currently being detained in Nepal. Six of them were arrested after the cease-fire was broken. The government has given no information about them. The international press freedom organisation has called for their immediate release if no evidence can be brought implicating them in the Maoist rebellion.Reporters Without Borders also hopes that the Nepalese government will rapidly allow into the country UN special rapporteurs on freedom of expression and torture, along with members of the Working Group on Enforced and Involuntary disappearances. In November 2002, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Sergio Vieira de Mello, responded positively to a recommendation from Reporters Without Borders to establish a permanent representative of the High Commissioner in Nepal.Adhikari was seen for the last time on 10 December in Kathmandu during a meeting held by the Human Rights Organisation of Nepal (HURON). He is being held in solitary confinement. He was previously detained for nearly four months in 2002, as a result of articles he wrote that were seen as favourable to the Maoists.Since November 2001, the security forces have been arresting journalists accused of supporting the Maoist rebellion without regard for national and international law. Dozens have been detained, some of them tortured for writing articles in pro-Maoist newspapers or for criticising the authorities. In the countryside, particularly in the conflict zones, journalists who investigate human rights violations find themselves threatened by both security forces and the Maoists. Promoter vows to deliver DeGale title fight

first_imgPromoter Mick Hennessy has responded to James DeGale’s discontent by vowing to do all he can to secure a world title fight for the Harlesden man.DeGale, who successfully defended his WBC silver super-middleweight title against American Dyah Davis on Saturday, is frustrated at his apparent lack of progress since signing with Hennessy last year.To make matters worse for the 27-year-old, his rival and fellow West Londoner George Groves will take on champion Carl Froch in a world title clash in Manchester this weekend. But Hennessy insists he is capable of delivering big fights for DeGale in the new year.“No-one wants that world title fight to happen more than me. I don’t want James to keep treading water,” he told West London Sport.“I’m going to do my utmost. Absolutely every which way I’m going to try and nail down a world title fight for him.DeGale and Groves could meet again“I’ve got a proven track record for it and I’m going to put that track record to the test.”DeGale, who narrowly lost to Groves on points in 2011, has been touted as a possible future opponent for the winner of Saturday’s all-British showdown. The more likely option seems to be a final eliminator against Mexico’s Marco Antonio Periban for a shot at the WBC’s world champion Sakio Bika. But Hennessy, formerly Froch’s promoter, believes DeGale is capable of beating the Nottingham fighter were they to meet.“I’d prefer him to fight the winner of Froch-Groves and then have a big unification fight with Andre Ward,” Hennessy said.“Carl Froch is a great fighter – determined and strong – but the way to beat him is with hand speed, skill and movement.“James has got all those things and I do believe he has the ability to beat Froch were they to fight.“That’s the preferred route but sometimes you’ve got to take what you can get.”Hennessy added: “I don’t think James should have taken a world title fight earlier – definitely not.“You’ve got to get the right time, when he’s had the right experience, to go into a world title fight.“I can understand James’ frustration, but sometimes patience is a virtue.”See also:DeGale wants Groves clash at Loftus RoadDeGale must prove he is ready for world title shot, says promoterTrainer says DeGale is ‘a million per cent ready’ for world title challengeDeGale weighs in ahead of Davis clashVictory keeps DeGale in line for title shotPromoter will not ‘buckle to pressure’ as DeGale eyes title shotDeGale tells promoter to deliver title fightDeGale in line for world title eliminator James DeGale v Dyah Davis as it happenedDeGale keen to put on ‘wicked’ displayYTo4OntzOjk6IndpZGdldF9pZCI7czoyMDoid3lzaWphLW5sLTEzNTI0NjE4NjkiO3M6NToibGlzdHMiO2E6MTp7aTowO3M6MToiMyI7fXM6MTA6Imxpc3RzX25hbWUiO2E6MTp7aTozO3M6MjI6Ildlc3QgTG9uZG9uIFNwb3J0IGxpc3QiO31zOjEyOiJhdXRvcmVnaXN0ZXIiO3M6MTc6Im5vdF9hdXRvX3JlZ2lzdGVyIjtzOjEyOiJsYWJlbHN3aXRoaW4iO3M6MTM6ImxhYmVsc193aXRoaW4iO3M6Njoic3VibWl0IjtzOjMzOiJTdWJzY3JpYmUgdG8gb3VyIGRhaWx5IG5ld3NsZXR0ZXIiO3M6Nzoic3VjY2VzcyI7czoyODM6IlRoYW5rIHlvdSEgUGxlYXNlIGNoZWNrIHlvdXIgaW5ib3ggaW4gb3JkZXIgdG8gY29uZmlybSB5b3VyIHN1YnNjcmlwdGlvbi4gSWYgeW91IGRvbid0IHNlZSBhbiBlLW1haWwgZnJvbSB1cywgY2hlY2sgeW91ciBzcGFtIGZvbGRlci4gSWYgeW91IHN0aWxsIGhhdmVuJ3QgcmVjZWl2ZWQgYSBjb25maXJtYXRpb24gbWVzc2FnZSwgcGxlYXNlIGUtbWFpbCBmZWVkYmFja0B3ZXN0bG9uZG9uc3BvcnQuY29tIGFuZCB0ZWxsIHVzIHlvdSB3aXNoIHRvIHN1YnNjcmliZSB0byBvdXIgbmV3c2xldHRlci4iO3M6MTI6ImN1c3RvbWZpZWxkcyI7YToxOntzOjU6ImVtYWlsIjthOjE6e3M6NToibGFiZWwiO3M6NToiRW1haWwiO319fQ== Follow West London Sport on TwitterFind us on Facebooklast_img read more

Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast — February 27, 2018

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest 180227_RyanMartinNo change in today’s outlook. We will be sunny, mild and dry! However, we are having to make a few changes for tomorrow. The wave that we were hoping would stay south into KY is pushing farther north over Indiana, and some of that may try and make a run in here tomorrow afternoon. We will keep rain potential of .25”-.5” in over the southern third of Ohio tomorrow, but may have to allow some spread up closer to the I-70 corridor. Clouds tomorrow do spread all the way across northern Ohio, so while temps remain mild, we will not get the benefit of additional direct sun warming. We can’t rule out a few spits and sprinkles in northern Ohio ahead of sunset tomorrow afternoon. Our next strong, well organized system still is not arriving Thursday midday and afternoon. Low pressure tracks from central IL through NE Indiana and into the thumb of Michigan for Thursday and brings rain totals of .25”-.5” to 80% of the state during the afternoon and into the evening. While we will be in the warm sector for most of the Thursday afternoon period, we still think there is a strong likelihood that the precipitation ends as snow over northern Ohio Thursday overnight into Friday morning as cold air races in behind. Right now we will open the door up to some 1”-4” snow totals from US 30 northward, and there is potential for more as the system interacts with Lake Erie, particularly in NE Ohio. The best accumulations will be north, with southeast Lower Michigan possibly getting pounded…depending on timing. Snow is done by Friday morning, but winds continue to look nasty Thursday night and Friday. We think the winds are the wild card, and have the potential to make this a very dramatic event. We can see winds up to 20-40 mph, which would make any snow up north an absolute pain to deal with. These snow totals and this snow potential is just a working process right now…we will hone in on a more specific forecast tomorrow morning. No change for the rest of the forecast. We go back to drier weather for Friday through next Monday morning. High pressure will slowly work through the Sunday. Cold air holds over the region to finish the week and start the weekend, only moderating once we get south flow on the backside of that high.A cold front brings rain back for overnight Monday night through Tuesday midday, the night of the 5th into the 6th. Rains do not look as impressive this morning, and will mostly be from .25”-.5” with coverage at 70% of the state. Colder air follows on the backside. The extended period has us mostly devoid of new precipitation to start, through the 9th. Then we have 2 significant waves moving across the eastern Corn Belt from the 10th through the 12th. Combined, these waves can bring half to 1.5” rain totals, and likely will deliver below normal temps around mid-month. Still, the pattern does not look nearly as active as what we just got done with this past week…so we should be seeing improvement in our drainage conditions through the next couple of weeks.last_img read more

Ohio Ag Weather and Forecast, May 14, 2019

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Mostly sunny skies statewide today and we expect a warmer afternoon. South winds will develop though the day which will fuel the warmer surge. Clouds will be on the increase tomorrow, but for the time being, we think that we stay rain free. Thursday, a few scattered showers dance through Ohio, but they really don’t have much available moisture to send our way, at least through the daytime hours. Coverage will only be 25%, and we can see clouds mix with sunshine in areas that do not get an isolated shower or two. Moisture really ramps up Thursday night. Rain and thunderstorms Thursday night through Friday end up hitting 70% of the state  with totals in a wide range, from .1”-1. The heavier totals will be largely dependent on thunderstorms. The weekend looks pretty nice, at least for 90% of the time. We are partly to mostly sunny Saturday, and then sunshine starts Sunday before clouds increase. Scattered showers develop over the western half to third of Ohio Sunday evening and continue through the overnight. Moisture totals once again do not look that impressive, at a few hundredths to .3”, but we really don’t need anymore moisture! Scattered showers linger over 60% of Ohio Monday, bringing an additional quarter of an inch or less. Strong south winds arrive for next Tuesday and will bring in much warmer air. This air will lead to an increase in instability and provide fuel for a significant thunderstorm outbreak Tuesday night. Sun will be followed increasing clouds Tuesday, also signaling a big change. Rain and thunderstorms come in Tuesday night and continue through Wednesday. Rain totals look to be from 25″-1″ with 90% coverage. Thursday turns out partly sunny but turn cooler. The map at right shows 10 day cumulative rainfall potential. The extended period still has rain for Friday the 24th, mostly in the afternoon and evening. Totals will be from .2” to .5” and coverage will be 80%. We are dry for the start of the Memorial Day weekend Saturday and Sunday. However, Memorial Day itself now looks wet, with rain and thunderstorms for Monday the 27th, and those run right into Tuesday the 28th. Rain totals run from half to 2” and we expect 100% coverage for the event. Finally, we end the extended period with a partly sunny, dry day for Wednesday the 29th.last_img read more

Morocco Thwarts Polisario and Algerias Attacks in the European Parliament

first_imgBy Louise RiondelBordeaux, France – The European Parliament adopted the initial report on the situation of Human Rights in the Sahara prepared by the British Conservative MP Charles Tannock on Tuesday. The text was a real indictment against Morocco, but the Kingdom’s diplomacy foiled the accusations of his opponents and won another victory today. The European Parliament congratulated Morocco for its progress and all amendments against the Kingdom were rejected, including that concerning the fishing agreement between Morocco and the European Union. The report mentions that “a large number of stakeholders, including the Government of Morocco, Moroccan NGOs, and former residents of the Tindouf camps, said that the Polisario authorities limited the residents’ freedom of expression and freedom of movement”, and recognizes the involvement of Algeria in the conflict and its protection of the Polisario. In a statement from the headquarters of the European Parliament in Strasbourg, Abderrahim Atmoun, Persident of the Parliamentary Committee of the EU-Morocco announced that the Moroccan diplomacy has managed to remove the “elements claiming falsely that the resources of the southern provinces did not benefit the people . “The report called on Algeria to facilitate the identification of people in the Saharawi refugee camps controlled by the Polisario. In addition, it urges “Algerian authorities to assume their responsibilities for improving the situation of human rights in the Tindouf camps.”The President of the EU- Morocco Friendship Group, Gilles Pargneaux said that “the Parliament should strengthen its relations with those who make more efforts to promote democracy. ““Do not forget that Morocco is the only country to have conducted a real development policy in the Saharan region, to have developed a respectable rule of law as the vector of terrorism and yet , some MEPs forget what the Kingdom of Morocco has accomplished,” he added.last_img read more
